Living on Purpose

Are you in a season of seeking God for answers or maybe even your purpose in life, to live on purpose first requires us to find the purpose we are living for. I know for me whenever I am seeking an answer to something I always go to the Word of God first to discover my answer. Come take a journey with me for a moment.

In scripture we see many examples of men and women seeking for what the purpose of life is, for example Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, discovered the futility of life when it is lived only for this world. He gives these concluding remarks in the book of Ecclesiastes 12:13-14- ”Here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil”

Solomon says that life is all about honoring God with our thoughts and lives and thus keeping His commandments, for one day we will stand before Him in judgment. Therefore we conclude from this one example in the Word that part of our purpose in life is to fear God and obey Him.

Another part of our purpose is to see life on this earth in perspective, as we look at the life of David in Ps. 17:15 he says, “As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.” Unlike those whose focus is on this life, King David looked for His satisfaction in the time to come. We are to see this world for what it is, a mere journey we must walk through to reach our destination in Heaven with our King and to be like Him. If we don’t see our purpose being linked to our Heavenly home, we will become worldly focused.

We also see through scripture that our purpose should only be found in the Father! Jesus lived his whole life from the context of constant communication with the Father and what the Father wanted Him to do. He lived on purpose. John 5:19 says, “So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father[a] does, that the Son does likewise.”

Are we in constant communication with the Father, knowing His word, through prayer, in teaching, that we know enough of His character and nature that we can live our lives according to His will? Jesus helped demonstrate to us the characteristics and heart of the Father by every action He did here on Earth.

I don’t know about you but I want to live my life on purpose! I want to cast off everything that seeks to distract me from the God given purpose He has given me. I pray that we will seek to give the Father all the honor and glory in my life here on earth.

Let this be our prayer today:

Psalms 27
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold[a] of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evildoers assail me
to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
it is they who stumble and fall.
3 Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet[b] I will be confident.
4 One thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire[c] in his temple.
5 For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will lift me high upon a rock.
6 And now my head shall be lifted up
above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
be gracious to me and answer me!
8 You have said, “Seek[d] my face.”
My heart says to you,
“Your face, Lord, do I seek.”[e]
9 Hide not your face from me.
Turn not your servant away in anger,
O you who have been my help.
Cast me not off; forsake me not,
O God of my salvation!
10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
but the Lord will take me in.
11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.
12 Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
for false witnesses have risen against me,
and they breathe out violence.
13 I believe that I shall look[f] upon the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living!
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!
